Please read this policy carefully.  It applies to all information collected through our website (https://www.lacopyrightsociety.com) and/or any related services, programs, or events (referred to collectively in this policy as the “Events”).  This policy describes the information that LACS may collect from you and how that information may be used.  By using our website and interacting with our Events, you agree to the collection and use of your information in accordance with this policy.

The Los Angeles Copyright Society (“LACS”) is a nonprofit, unincorporated association within the meaning of Section 180.20 of the California Corporations Code.  As set forth in its By-Laws, the primary purposes of the LACS are (i) to study, analyze, and discuss all phases of United States and International copyright law and other aspects of law and business in the entertainment and communications fields; and (ii) to present speakers on topics concerning and to otherwise disseminate information regarding all aspects of copyright law and law and business in the entertainment and communications fields.

Collection of Personal Information

We collect your Personal Information only when you provide it to us voluntarily through various activities on this website or through your participation in our Events.  “Personal Information” includes your name, organization, mailing address, email address, telephone and fax numbers, State Bar registration number, and credit card information.

For example, the LACS website contains pages where you can fill out a profile, register to attend one of our Events, pay the registration fee for the Event, make your annual dues payment, or send an email inquiry.  We contract with outside providers, including Wild Apricot and its affiliate AffiniPay, to process credit card transactions.  These providers use secure servers, so your credit card number and other Personal Information will be encrypted and will remain confidential.

At any time, you may contact us or access the website directly if you wish to update, modify or delete the information in your personal profile or if you wish to be removed from any of our mail or email lists.

Use of Personal Information

By submitting your Personal Information through this web site, you give your consent for LACS to collect, use, and disclose such information as described in this Privacy Policy.  We will use your Personal Information to fulfill your request or otherwise to accomplish the purpose for which you provided it.  We also may use it for such purposes as sending you, either electronically or through the U.S. mail, information about our programs, services, scholarships, speakers, and upcoming Events; processing and communicating with you about annual dues payments; and sending you other materials relating to LACS’s operations and activities that we think may be of interest to you.  At any time, you may request that we discontinue sending you these communications by contacting us with your request to unsubscribe, as described in the Contact Us section of this website.

LACS does not sell, trade, transfer, lease, or rent any Personal Information to any third party except as authorized by you or as disclosed in this Privacy Policy.  To provide services to you, we may share your Personal Information with third parties, such as those who facilitate activities on this web site or our Events.  We will not sell or rent your Personal Information to third parties for marketing purposes and will require our service providers not to use your Personal Information for marketing purposes without your consent.

LACS reserves the right to disclose your Personal Information to respond to a subpoena, court order, search warrant, or other legal process, to defend LACS against legal claims, or for other reasons that we determine in good faith are necessary or appropriate.  LACS may transfer Personal Information to its successors or assigns, if permitted by and done in accordance with applicable law.
